Hands clasped together as he stared at his shoes on the black and white tiling that smelled of bleach, Arieus Severio sat hunched over in the visiting quarters within the psychiatric ward. Large rectangular lights flooded the room, making it appear far brighter than it was, as though he had woken up from having drank too much.
Snow boots stomped through piles of slush, disregarding the splashes of wet snow as they sailed through the air for mere seconds before making contact with the ground again. Although it was not cold, the gloomy dark skies did not fill Annetta and her companions with much in the way of energy as they made their way to her house.
Her shield raised before her, Annetta rushed forward. A war cry escaped her lungs, helping project her towards her target, her keen blue eyes peering from beyond the small opening she had left between her face and the shield. Resistance found her seconds later when the shield met with its target, an elongated foam and sand-filled pillar that stood about seven feet tall. Grunting from the effort of having to apply further pressure, she kept pushing, feeling how slow she was going, despite having run at full force just seconds before.
Snow fell in large clumpy tufts through the air as the final bell of the day rang all across the high school. The dark green steel doors of the brick structure then swung open seconds later, letting out a sea of students ready for their winter holidays. Trudging among them in the snow were Annetta, Jason, Link and Sarina, each in their heavy winter coats. The group of companions were in high spirits, knowing they would not be forced to come back until after the New Year.
A chill blew through Annetta, Jason, Link and Sarina as they walked home from school. Leaves danced around their feet, a sure reminder that winter would soon be upon them. It was something that neither Annetta nor Jason were looking forward to, having endured their fair share of cold weather due to living in Canada their whole lives.
Brisk autumn winds pulled in around the Trafjan Cliffs along with the impending night. These impenetrable mountains were home to the Soarin, the Sky Wolves, a race of beings that resembled upright wolves with thick manes of varied colour, sleek lion like tails and enormous feathered wings. From their city could be seen the smoke of hundreds of cooking fires, now lifted into the air in white wisps. The seasonal Eternal Hunt had come back as a success and the young Soarin were pronounced victorious by their leader, Entellion. When the cheering subsided, the feast began and the celebration proceeded.
